Prefatory Note
This Report contains the papers read at the Seminar on Architecture organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi, during March 1959.
I was assisted by a Steering Committee consisting of Sarvashri J. R. Bhalla, J. M. Benjamin, Shivnath Prasad, T. J. Manickam, H. Rahman, C. S. H. Jhabvala. Shree Manohar and M/s. J. A. Stein and Edward G. Echeverria, both in regard to the planning of the Seminar as well as the organisation of the Exhibition of Architecture and the Seminar. I express my sincere thanks to these gentlemen fo all they have done fo the Seminar.
I am very happy to record the distinguished presence of Miss Catherine Bower (U.S.A.), M. Beauduin (France), Mr. Albert Mayer (U.S.A.) and Mr. Gordon Cullen (England); and I thank Miss. Bower and these gentlemen for participating in our deliberations. My thanks are especially due to the Ford Foundation for making it possible for M. Beauduin to visit India.
Several other architects helped us very such in putting up the Exhibition of Architecture. I off them, too, my sincere thanks. I am paricularly grateful to the fo their assistance. Finally, I offer my thanks to the Secretary and the staff of the Lalit Kala Akademi fo the great pains taken by them to make this Seminar successful.
While preparing this Report, some editing has been done, but care has been taken to keep it to the minimum and to see t hat the authors’ thoughts are left untouched.
