Despite the fact that India is essentially a rural society, the oriental charms of its cities are quite unique inasmuch as they are rich repositories of the country's heritage and culture. Alongside the rich endowment of natural-cultural resources, urban tourism constitutes a sizeable tourist product which demands a closer look. This paper, within the framework of urban tourism, examines some of the problems associated with urban development and urban tourism with special reference to the Nawab city of Lucknow.
