The growing house is designed for families with modest incomes who can only incur the minimum unavoidable expenditure on putting up houses. for themselves. This house is a "growing' house. It is primarily a rural type but is also suitable for semi-urban areas. The planning and the use of materials in different stages have been very carefully evolved with this objective of making the modest looking  initial tenement, grow up into a durable spacious and well laid-out house. The complete house costs less than twice the average annual income of an Indian family; and the first stage is a limited contribution the only possible one at that stage within the resources of the family towards the gradual and definite realisation of the ultimate objective.
